Does anyone know if there are any restaurants that serve Nacatamales? Thanks!

Just to clarify for people. A nacatamal is a Nicaraguan tamal. It is wrapped in a plantain leaf. It is larger that the normal Mexican tamale. They are very popular in Central America. You should try one if you can find it. They are really tasty!

Can you name restaurants in other cities that have this? (Just in case I am traveling there, and am able to enjoy this!)

Wow. There was a restaurant in Daly City, CA that I used to get them. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the place. I'm sure you can find them in the Mission District of San Francisco. If you can find a Nicaraguan or Honduran restaurant, they might have them. Good luck! They are really tasty!

I was able to find a reference to the Las Palmas Restaurant at 4005 Buford Highway. I have no idea if it is still around, but I read they served Nacatamales.

Sorry, Archan. I live around the corner, and I think they are gone.

This is the same plaza with the fantastic Vietnamese place Com.

Do yourself a favor and check out Tierra on Piedmont in Midtown. It's a little jewell of a place between the Botanical Gardens and Ansley Mall, very near the Boy Next Door.

One of the owners is from Central America (Ticha), and the food is fantastic. You could probably talk her into making them for you - they are that nice.

Thanks for the update and the recommendation. I see on their menu that they serve Pupusas. They are also a favorite of mine.

I was beginning to think there were no such things, but Google shows them. Looks good.

Yeah, Greg - If you like tamales, you would like them. I had some in L.A. once, and they were pretty yummy. But they were HUGE at the place I went - too much for me to finish!
