Cool little house just remodeled with a huge back yard. OK street. It's just inside of Grove Park about one block off of Bankhead Highway. How much has this area changed? I realize that how much will it change is nothing but speculation.

I wouldn't do it. That part of town is still highly "transitional" and with the recent recession, things will dip down before any signs of potential upswing.

There are other intown neighborhoods to consider that are better.

Note: Saving money now doesn't really help you if you're replacing your belongings due to a break-in every month. . Personally I'd pass on it.

What street is it on? That whole area as a whole is pretty bad IMO, but some streets are quieter than others. I would stay away from streets like Cedar Ave, Hood Ave (not playing that's the real name), North and South Grand Ave, but streets like Ayeshire St, Twilley Cr., and Baker Ridge Rd are fairly quiet given there close proximity to some pretty rough areas. The section of Baker Ridge that is near Collier Heights is actually on the National Historic Registry.

Alta is that dead end street right? If thats the one then it should be OK. If Im not mistaken the police station is directly across from there on the other side of Hollowell, and the only thing I would be leary of is that liquor store across from the J R Crickets. That side of Hollowell does not really get that bad until you get west of Center Hill Ave. With that said you will still be in the heart of Zone 1 and you will never be that far from the streets off of Bankhead that are basically open air drur markets. A good freind of mine grew up on Ayeshire not to far from there and it is a really quiet street considerinig it is in the heart of Bankhead. Even some of those streets are Ok as long as you know how to and are comfortable navigating areas like that. My pop has a rental house on Cedar Ave, and I lived in it for 2 years after I got out of school and never had any problems. The dope boys and crackheads really dont mess with you as long as they know who are and what you do

I really appreciate your input!!! Yea Alta dead ends into the lake/pond. Seems to be a relatively quite street. And the police station is a big consideration. We have some other houses around that area to look at this week end. Do you mind if I ask you about those? When we get moved in I'll buy you a beer or two!

You can go ahead and ask, but I am far from an expert. Im from southwest and northwest is a totally different animal, even when I lived over there I really didnt explore the entire area. The extent of my experience in that area really comes from high school as I had a few running buddies from that part of town. With that said someone else on here asked a few weeks ago the same exact question and I said no simply because that individual was asking in terms for investment purposes. But for someone who wants a good quality built house to live in for the low and can deal with the other "issues" in that area I would say it is a good deal. There are allot of very nice older houses over there that have been renovated really nice and are now sitting empty. I wouldnt do a street like Hood Ave. or even Cedar Ave. where my dad's property is, but I would buy a house on a street like Ayeshire or Alta in a hot second.
