What I wanna know is, why do people sometimes forget there is a west side and east side of Atlanta ? It seems like whenever someone asks what part of Atlanta you're from, they ask if you're from the northside or southside. You never hear someone ask if you're from the eastside or westside. Has anyone else noticed this ?

I think the older generation of folks here in Atlanta tend to do that. I grew up hearing all 4 used in addition to NW, SW, SE, and NE.

I'm not originally from Atlanta, so maybe I'm different...but I have never asked anyone on which "side" of Atlanta they live, and I have usually heard the question "Where do you live in Atlanta?" rather than specifically which side. People obviously live on all sides of the city.

Maybe it's just a youth thing, or maybe a black thing. Growing up, myself and people around me always asked someone what side they were from. In SW we were always ultra proud of of where we were from, and I guess we liked to compare and contrast our area to others. But I never really thought about why though, I just did it.

I tell people in and around ATL exactly where I live. I usually tell others 'northern suburbs of ATL', if they know ATL, then they ask further and I tell them. However where I live, and probably others as well, its really kind of hard to explain !

Example: I live in unincorporated Gwinnett county, have a Lawrenceville address but actually live closer to Snellville proper.
