Default mold inspector

Has anyone used someone that they would recommend?

A little more info: We have mold appearing in our closets on things like leather shoes and fabric suitcases (though not clothes that we can see), on the wall and on floor (in a few small spots) in closets on one end of the house (the side which lacks a gutter to divert rain, probably not a coincidence), and on windowsills whose windows show condensation. We notice it affecting our allergies.

Would appreciate anyone's opinion on whether this is worth an inspector or just a good cleaning and air filtering--which we've already done but who's to say mold still won't come back? We will probably install a gutter on the one side of the house that does not have it and also buy humidifiers, but we don't know much about the value of a home mold inspection.

Thanks!

I have used home inspectors in the past for mold issues in a house. However, I don't know if that is what you are looking for.

House Smart - Home Inspector in Atlanta, Alpharetta, Roswell, Canton & Woodstock (http://www.housesmartinspect.com/inspectors.htm - broken link) - ask for Matt Koch. He knows a lot about mold.

Hope that helps.

I would go w/ the route of an inspector first. He wouldn't have any other vested interest other than giving you his findings. They can tell you the source of the water intrusion and how to correct. They can take air samples and sample some spots. They will also be able to tell you what kind of mold you have. They will also give you recommendations of companies that can remediate the mold.

The mold will not go away until the water problem is corrected. After that, the cleanup maybe very easy or it could be alot more depending on the depth of the mold. Also since you think it's from the lack of a gutter, what type of siding is on the house?

Good luck. I've used Certified Home, Stucco, Radon & Mold Inspections, Testing | Atlanta, GA. Hope this helps.
