Just north of Georgia Tech is the student ghetto, a neighborhood called Home Park. There is some crime there but not much considering it is in the middle of the city. Across the highway to the east is midtown. The first part of midtown is lots of tall buildings, both office and condos. East of Juniper it turns into an area made up mostly of single family houses which have been turned into apartments. The midtown area is very popular with young professionals and has one of the highest percentages of gay men in the country. South of GT is an area called Centennial Place. Its the redevelopment of the first housing project in the US. It's mixed income so there is a range of incomes there. Just south of that is Downtown Atlanta. To the southwest is English Avenue, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Atlanta. To the west is West Midtown which is a transitioning warehouse district with lots of lofts, art galleries and furniture shops.

Crime in Home Park and Centennial Place seemed to come in waves. We had several break ins in both Home Park and Centennial Place, but it was usually like a bad week, then nothing for a few months.

In Home Park it was mostly car break ins, in Centennial Place they actually broke in our apt twice in one week.
