Sadly a 5 year old child, Karla Campos was killed this week after getting off the school bus in East Cobb. The accident happened just down the street from my home. The elderly driver was at fault in the accident. If anyone would like to make a donation to the family to help with funeral and other expenses a foundation has been set up here.

Very sad. When will states begin to do the common sense thing and test drivers as they age, since their senses aren't able to handle driving any more?

Yes. Very sad. I grew up in a neighborhood off of Davis Road and I attended Mountain View Elementary. This tragedy really hit close to home for me because my niece also attends Mountain View and is a kindergarten student (and lives off of Davis Road).

I couldn't find a link to the story, so I'm wondering, was this a case of a child that got off the bus and walked in front of it, right at the blind spot? (I only ask because something like this happened recently in Houston).

According to the article I read in the AJC, the girl had just stepped off the bus and had not crossed the street. The car drove up the curb and hit her.

Very, very sad.

Tragic. Absolutely tragic.

Police blame ‘driver error' in Cobb girl's death *| ajc.com

This is another case of an elderly driver panicking and hitting the wrong pedal.

This is such a sad event. I feel so sad for the family to loose a precious life. Senior citizens really need to know when they are capable of driving and when they need to have someone else help them. Maybe more road testing for senior citizens driving over the age of 65+ is needed from the department of motor vehicles.

**I have always thought the pick up/drop off system is not correct here. The small town door to door service of picking up schools need to stop. It baffles me when I see school buses pull up at someone's house and stop traffic both directions when it would be much safer to pick kids up and drop them off at a designated location. It would be wiser to pick the kids up from a cvs/kroger or nearby parking lot area and drop them off as well. That way they can avoid these tragedies.

Usually in this area that's the case.....at designated spots ..I believe I read the parents in the area had requested this spot as a bus stop. Originally it had been in a more central location. It's a long busy road. The way East Cobb is laid out...if you aren't in a subdivision then your stop is in a central spot on a main road.

Someone like that should not be driving... not so much age, but reflexes... did anyone see her on television with the police leading her out of her car? She moved like she had athritis... she could barely walk... how can she be expected to make quick movements with her legs when driving? I think after a certain age, you should get re-tested.

Actually, Davis Road is not that busy--it's really nothing compared to the other main roads in the area--Holly Springs, Post Oak Tritt, Shallowford, etc.

Davis is hilly and winding though--however, I do think this was a freak incident due to the abilities of the elderly driver.
