I suppose Lawrenceville Hwy would be the most direct route.

You might find more traffic around Lilburn--and I think you have to go through several school zones---quite a drive--but not as bad as some.

Do you think Johnson/Lenox to 85N would be a good way from VaHi to Lawrenceville? How long would this take?

45 minutes, maybe 60 on bad days (more like 60 coming back most days).

What I consider Va Highlands is off Briarcliff Rd. It intersects Ponce de Leon and if you go left--you end up on Scott Blvd which then becomes LVlle Hwy around N. DeKalb Mall. (this part of the trip might have a lot of traffic???)
Lots of traffic lights.

You could try Briarcliff Rd to NLake and left on La Vista through Tucker and intersect LVlle Hwy that way.

I am not the best with directions. Feeling very hostile about Atlanta drivers tonight...Maybe someone else knows a better way.

(Had a bad traffic day--sick and tired of all the honking and blowing if you don't hit the gas the second a light changes.)

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I would love to live in the VaHi area, the traffic going up to Lawrenceville is the only drawback. From the sound of it though, it doesn't sound too bad. Especially b/c I go to work about an hour earlier than most (leave at 6:30-7am).

I don't really have anything to add to what has already been said except that it's actually Virginia-Highland...no 's'.

I-85 is going to be quicker then Lawrenceville Hwy just because the speed limit is so much higher and their are no lights. The big problem is going to be getting back. Briarcliff, Cheshire Bridge and Monroe (the three main roads into Va-Hi from the highway) can start backing up at 2pm so the earlier time frame might not help much.

Every day --over an hour both ways and you never know if there will be a massive accident to really snarl traffic up --people have to find alternate routes if something major happens on the interstate--anywhere.

L'Ville--others can explain--lots of growth in the area and a lot of people going north, south, east and west.

Ongoing construction on I85 and major roads in Gwinnett is something to consider very seriously.

and FWIW--Toco Hills is really 'Toco Hill'. 'Top of the County'. I guess it was 50 years ago???

I never knew that--always called it Toco Hills then I saw the new sign --'Toco Hill'.
