I have a provisional job offer with a company in Atlanta. The company is near Atlantic Station.

We are looking at the Kennesaw or Marieta area. We have already done enough research to know we can afford the area. I already know that the public school system is good in Cobb County. What I am asking about is the commute. Is the traffic really as bad as I have heard people say it is? Are they exaggerating?

Any websites that show GA DOT cameras where I can actually watch the traffic for myself during different times of the day?

Any help at all is greatly appreciated!

Yep -- Georgia Navigator :: Home .

Besides the cameras, you can see maps with the current status of traffic on all the freeways, and check out the historical trip time data for most freeways at different times of the morning and afternoon rush hours: Georgia Navigator :: Historical Trip Time Data (http://www.georgia-navigator.com/histdata/trip.shtml - broken link)

trip times are inaccurate and frankly a joke. dont go by these.

also keep in mind that arterial roads can often be worse. just because you made it off the interstate, doesn't mean much.

personally i find traffic to be somewhat better (must be all those people leaving the area that couldnt legally drive.....) than it was years ago. i haven't had a 3 hour trip along 285 and 85 in a long time.

Of course, it couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that over 120,000 jobs have evaporated here in the last year or so.............

Don't worry about the traffic- in a few years, the bullet trains will be operational around the country, and there won't be any traffic anymore.....

I have been watching the traffic on the cams on the Georgia page mentioned above. Honestly, it doesn't look as bad as rush hour here in Memphis is. So I think I will be ok.

It's been my experience that Atlanta metro traffic is usually not bad in most places until there is some sort of accident.

Memphis' rush hour is far shorter than Atlanta. Memphis has far fewer routes and less people. less cars etc.
