Thanks for the replies - didn't realize Decatur had a school system separate from Dekalb. Our budget is much lower, $300-$350K, doesn't need to be new but don't want tiny. I'll look into Oakhurst - is this a subdivision or a section? Love Candler Park, can't believe how expensive its gotten!

Default Oakhurst

Oakhurst is technically a subdivision; it actually used to be its own city. However, most would consider it a "section" like Candler Park is a section. You might also look in the College Heights area which is adjacent to Oakhurst and is considered by some to be part of Oakhurst. College Heights is districted to Winnona Park Elementary which is also an excellent school. College Heights may very well have something big enough for $300,000 to $350,000.

We are very fond of Decatur schools. The K-3 schools are Expeditionary Learning schools (google ELOB). The 4th and 5th grade academy is an International Baccalaureate school and the middle school is on the way to becoming one. Check them out on greatschools.net.

The schools in the Oak Grove, Decatur area are excellent. Being in Decatur outside of the City of Decatur city limits also saves you alot on taxes. Very established area and there are alot of town homes with a new one right at Oak Grove called Davis Oaks that offers some of the largest town homes around. Residential has new and old from varying price points to choose from.

Oak Grove Elementary is great...I'm not all that sold on Henderson Middle and Lakeside High, although that's probably the best that DeKalb has to offer.
I believe Davis Oaks start in the 450's? The OP is looking in the neighborhood of 300-350M...not easy to find in Oak Grove, and those houses are usually snatched up by the teardown builders.
