My husband and 3 grandchildren will be visiting Atlanta area; Six Flags, Stone Mountain, Braves game and Aquarium the week of 6/18 - 6/24. Would like to stay in clean but family oriented motel/hotel. Any suggestions? thought about staying where we can utilize MARTA system.

I suggest the Westin Buckhead, adjacent to Lenox Mall. There are lots of things you can do and a Marta Station across the street.

We stayed at the Sheraton in Buckhead, which was also right near the MARTA station. Bear in mind that you're not going to be able to use MARTA for the trips to Stone Mountain or Six Flags, in case you didn't realize that.

Hotels around perimeter center might be okay as well -- though Buckhead puts you closer to all your destinations.
We just went to the new World of Coke last week -- it was great. I was genuinely surprised. It is next to the aquarium, though if it was me, I wouldn't do them both on the same day -- if I could avoid it. Do you know about the citypass that can save you money on admissions? Visit 6 Atlanta attractions for just $64, a $113.93 value! I don't know how old your grandkids are, but mine love the CNN studio tour. This too is right by the aquarium. We have a baby Panda at the zoo as well. |

Actually, you can use MARTA to get to those places, but you have to use rail and bus. Having said that, one major down side about taking MARTA to Stone Mountain is that you'll be forced to do some SERIOUS walking as the park is large and the bus stop is in Stone Mountain Village, a couple hundred yards from the entrance to the park. To get to Six Flags on MARTA you take a shuttle from the rail station...Hamilton E. Holmes station, I think. Last edited by JPD; 06-04-2007 at 08:09 AM. |
