Default Relocating- McDonough or Stockbridge?

I am looking at temporarily relocating to Ft. Gillem for 9 months. I have been reading the forums and am unclear of the "safe" areas. It was recommended to me that McDonough or Stockbridge were decent areas, so any thoughts would be appreciated. I will be living there alone, so if there are any apt communities that you can recommend and are safe, I would appreciate that also.

I lived in Stockbridge in the early 2000's and worked in McDonough from 98-01. I would go for McDonough as it was more my style than Stockbridge. Shopping is abundant, but there is still a small downtown feel and plenty of land/farms/country areas too. Stockbridge doesn't have a main "square"/downtown area.

I lived in the apartments off Hudson Bridge/Eagle's Landing parkway behind the Georgia Federal Credit Union. They were new then, haven't been to that area in years so don't know how they've held up.

McDonough has more shopping and everything closer. I live in Stockbridge but have to drive to McDonough for everything...unless I go to wal-mart. That's all we have.

I hope someone from this thread who has helped the others would be able to help us too. We relocated from Indiana here a few weeks ago and was told that Henry County had the best schools as far as academics and that Eagles Landing Schools were number 2 in the state. My question is what communities do we look for homes to rent in the Eagles Landing School District or is this even true? Please and thank you!

Who ever told you that is clueless, especially the part about Eagles Landing schools being number two in the state! Henry county schools are bad and getting worse everyday. A simple google search will pull up some good websites that will give you all the data you need.

Well, I wouldn't say Henry County Schools are bad, are they the greatest, no, but there are worse, Clayton, DeKalb, Fulton, my wife and daughter teach at a local Henry County elementary school, lots of folks where I work have wives who also teach at various Henry County schools. There are good and bad. Eagle's Landing was a better school years ago, Ola and Locust Grove HS seem to be the better ones now, for now, until things here catch up to Clayton and DeKalb.

I don't care for the north end of the county, too congested and too much crime, there's crime in the McDonough area too, and it'll get worse, but I prefer the south end. I also prefer the east side of I-75, just because of the traffic related issues.

My mom and sisters are educators or atleast were. My mom tought in Morrow where I grew up but left once the schools turned into warzones. While there are worse systems in the metro region like Clayton county the hand writing is on the wall for the Henry county school system. Just look at the schools ten years ago and look at them now for proof.

I left Henry because it is turning into Clayton county south. While Cobb county isnt perfect, you can atleast put your children in a public school and not have to worry about how ghetto it will be within the next five years. Same goes for the neighborhood. I cant tell you how many Clayton refugee's like myself fleed to Henry county and are now kicking themselves because they are having to move again. At the end of the day I didnt want to move past Jackson to get away from it.

Absolutely, I'm in the same boat, you could have seen it comin ten and fifteen years ago. Henry is goin the way of Clayton, and fast. Everyone here knows it. Just a matter of time. There's only so far south or north you can go though.

and so the viscious cycle continues, its ridiculous that you have to move every 5 to 10 years in this town to get away from the bottom feeders.
