Default Help, leaving today

Ok i'm finally driving up today from Miami and we want to check out Cobb and Gwinnett county. Where should we stay? Is it convenient to stay in downtown area of Atlanta?

The Mariott in Stone Mountain Park is very nice and is centrally located between the two. Plus you have the nightly laser show and fireworks..

Never been to Atlanta. Would you recommend staying maybe one night around Olympic Park? I thought The Omni and try out the rail to check out the city. The Omni seems like it close to alot of things. Would it also be safe?

MARTA train does not go to either Gwinnett or Cobb...

For sightseeing -- it is ok, but certainly not for house hunting.

What is your price range? Some of the more expensive hotels/motels are located in downtown Atlanta and Buckhead/Lenox area. You would be far away from Gwinnett and Cobb counties, too.

It can be 'difficult' to find motels/hotels in metro Atlanta. It is a good idea to make reservations--get directions, etc prior to arrival.

Motel 6/Studio 6--extended stay has several locations--one in Gwinnett/Breckenridge Blvd and one in Marietta/Cobb County/Delk Rd.

There are other extended stay facilities and all the major hotel/motel chains can be found here--some locations are more convenient than others.

If you have any idea which parts of Cobb and/or Gwinnett counties you want to see that will make a big difference in where you should stay.

sls

ETA:
I noticed in another post that you want to tour the Dacula/Snellville part of Gwinnett county--the eastern side. The Lawrenceville area. Studio 6/Motel 6 on Breckenridge Blvd would not be the best location for that area, FWIW. (Breckenridge is off Pleasant Hill Blvd--a main road that is heavily traveled in Gwinnett County.)

I often get very 'lost'/turned around in this part of Gwinnett. Buy a map and get very specific directions to any house/subdivision you want to see. jmo.
The 'Lawrenceville Hwy' is a good landmark--starting point.

Snellville is not far from Stone Mountain, FWIW.

A good place to eat in Midtown/dowtown Atlanta is 'The Flying Biscuit' in Candler Park--one of the intown neighborhoods--where the history/charm of Atlanta is more noticeable.
Here>>>
The Flying Biscuit Cafe

You also might enjoy a visit to Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Botanical Gardes in this same area. Ponce de Leon Avenue runs from the heart of the city all the way to Stone Mountain. Close to North Ave--you can stop for a Krispy Kreme doughnut on Ponce de Leon. IIRC, that KK has been there since before WW2--not certain about that but it has been there a Long Time. You should also have a chili dog and onion rings at the Varsity--drive in near Ga Tech/North Ave and see the Fox Theater.

You will have a busy visit.
