We're looking to move to a Girlmore Girls-esque sort of town; awesome walk-ability, quaint stores and restaurants, absolutely beautiful, possibly historic, semi-low population, trees all over, every body knows your name sort of deal. (Obviously that was a little too specific. Just something similar.)

I'm scared to add detail out of the fear that I'll get no responses, so I'll keep it simple:
My mom and I were looking for a small-town feel within commuting distance to metro Atlanta. I've been looking, but havn't found anything. Does a town like this even exist?

We currently live in Kennesaw (population? 31,628 people, at least 500 country clubs, and a million dime-a-dozen, characterless, factory-made, suburban subdivisions), which means her commute right now is 25 minutes. It would be amazing if that number could go down, but for a good town she could deal with around than 40 minutes away from Atlanta, as my mom owns a ghost tour there.

If anyone knows anything, or has any kind of suggestion, please, please, please do not hesitate! Thank you so much.

City of Decatur or some of the intown neighborhoods like Virginia Highland wold fit the bill somewhat. Do you have a budget in mind- those areas aren't cheap.

It sounds like you're describing Madison, GA.

- Visit Historic Madison, Georgia! Just 1 hour from Atlanta.

Senoia, GA is a similar situation, but closer to Atlanta.

It depends on what you mean by "home town feel". If you mean a town where everyone knows everyone else, then I don't think you will find that anywhere near Atlanta. If you mean a walkable town with quaint shops, interesting town square, festivals and such, then there are a few of those around. The ones I am familiar with are Duluth and Woodstock. You are already in Kennesaw so drive on up to Woodstock and see if that's what you had in mind (Hwy 5 and Arnold Mill). Canton also has an interesting downtown area, although as I understand it they are a little thin on local activities & festivals.

Default Definitely Senoia!

Wow! You just described Senoia! It's just south of Peachtree City and meets all of your requirements - quaint, small population, everyone knows your name - just 40 easy minutes from Atlanta. A lot of towns try to create that Gilmore-esque feel, but it's genuine in Senoia.
