Default Good day trip hiking spots near atlanta

I just recently moved to atlanta and I'm looking for good hiking trails close by. We would love to get out of the city a bit so we don't mind driving and hour or so to some trails up north. I know GA has just a ton of good hiking trails, I just can't seem to find a good website that has the information readily available.

I'm looking for something in the 5 to 7 to 10 mile range. Nothing real serious. I've been on a few different parts of the Chat. National Park (did I get that right) and I'm looking for places that are a little bit more outside of the city. Trails that can be hiked in a day is what I'm most interested in. What are some good ones?

Panther Creek Trail and Falls is about 1.5 hours outside of Atlanta near Tallulah Gorge. It can be done as a point to point or just a loop.

Here is a great website with several good choices of Georgia trails for hiking:

Hello. Look at the entire Georgia Trails site. Biking and driving routes are also included, so it's a good introduction to the state.

My favorite is Sweetwater Creek State Park west of Atlanta, not far off of I-20. It's really beautiful, has a great series of trails around the ruins of a mill next to the creek, and the visitor's center is really cool.

Sweetwater Creek has about 6 miles of trails and it's convenient. So, it's a good standby. It's also beautiful.

But to get a bit more out of town also try Tallulah Gorge: Tallulah Gorge State Park

Amazon.com: Hiking Trails of North Georgia (0765288512743): Tim Homan: Books

You can probably check it out at your local library, it's a nice reference though.

I did that and really liked it. Those are the kinds of things I am looking for.

I will check out the web sites! I had tried to google this a few times but kept getting lost in all the information, or maybe I'm just stupid :-). It's hard not growing up in an area and learning about the 'can't miss' places.
