No.

When they build the multimodal station, it could then be re-named Grand Five Points Station.

LMAO!

Did you even bother looking up what it really is?

MARTA average daily subway trips: 259,900 (That number can more than double on any given day due to MARTA being connected to the Airport, convention centers, and sports arenas.)

MARTA average daily bus trips: 220,900

In other words, more people take the MARTA subway than the MARTA buses everyday.

How is that not saying much?

Of all of the big cities in the country only New York City (duh), DC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston and San Francisco have more subway riders than Atlanta with Philadelphia and San Francisco beating MARTA by about 50,000 riders despite the fact both systems serve a significantly larger population than the MARTA service area.

At the same time Atlanta's MARTA has way more daily subway/train riders than Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Baltimore, and Cleveland combined.

Yeah, that's not saying much.

Let's think about this logically. If MARTA were to shut down it's subway (for some bizarre reason) in favor of buses, it would likely have to quadruple the number of buses to accommodate the additional passengers (most MARTA train riders do not transfer to a bus at their final destination) as well as make up for the loss of frequency due to trains being several orders of magnitude faster than buses. Also, if you haven't noticed, gas is pretty expensive now and going up. Even if it were more economical, it wouldn't be for long.

Not that it matters though, your position is flawed beyond belief. Atlanta has a heavily populated city center/inner suburban population of about 1.5 million that MARTA serves and greater area of 5+ million residents making it the 9th largest urban area in the country, 11th on the continent. We need a train system here to function properly.

Also, busses have to sit in traffic, and trains don't, so I think the appropriate saying for this idea is: EPIC FAIL.

You are bizarrely alone in this assessment of Five Points.

I do not disagree that the above ground portion of Five Points Station is butt ugly and needs to be cleansed of it's Brutalism.

Better name and the station favors the Edgewood side more so than the Candler Park side.

Not to mention they would cause traffic too.

Think about Five Points for a second. It is the most heavily used station in the system and counts almost 60,000 people through it's gates each day. I don't want to even think how many buses would be needed to carry 60,000 people.

Not cute.
Not cute, but very descriptive. "Garnett Street" means nothing to most people, but everyone knows where the jail is.

Yeah, any way you look at it, RC's all bus/no train idea is just plain dumb.

So?

Subway stations should be named either after a street or the surrounding neighborhood. Calling Garnett "Downtown Station" would be nonsensical since it is only one of several stations in Downtown, it would be more appropriate to name it after the street it is on. It's too far away from Castleberry Hill to be attached to it.
