Default Moving to Atlanta

Hi, my wife and I decided we want to live somewhere in Georgia. We both have to find employment and no idea where to begin our search, hence why I'm posting here. About me, retired Air Force and seeking employment somewhere in aviation, hoping to land a job with the FAA. I have 23 years of aircraft maintenance experience, A&P License, AA degree in Aviation Maintenance, Quality Assurance and more credentials. My wife works in Hospital admin and we are set on moving within the next 3-15 months, it depends on when our house sells. Can anyone recommend the best areas to seek employment? We need to find jobs first but are willing to move and hope we find something reasonably fast. Our plan is to rent a house or live in an apartment for six months until we can determine where we will buy a home based on distance from new job. Any advice or ideas will be appreciated, we know very little about Georgia, but visited there once and enjoyed the Atlanta area. We have no children and can move anywhere within Georgia, just need to secure jobs. Of course I look at USA.JOBS, Warner Robins employment opportunities but sometimes it is who you know. Thanks for taking the time to read, I'm sure I forgot to mention something or not clear in other areas. We just want to live in Georgia.

Warner Robbins is a good bit south of Atlanta, so living there is going to put you in the country. Not sure if that's good or bad for you. Being closer to Atlanta would greatly increase your wife's chances of finding a medical admin job though. Something to keep in mind about Georgia is nearly 50% of the entire state's population lives in the metro Atlanta area.

There's another small airport called Dobbin near Marietta and Smyrna. Northwest of Atlanta and very close to the city. Both are overall nice areas to live in and range in cost in living from cheaper apartments to mansions. There's some other really small airport right above it near Kennesaw. Not sure the name or it's purpose.

I guess like anytime you make a quick move, can't always be picky about that first job to help you get planted. Good thing is, it isn't that hard at all to find a job here if you're willing to take anything while waiting to try to get a higher paying job in a field you specialize in.

Hope this helps and good luck on the move.

personally, i would look at the atlanta airport and try to live in peachtree city...it is south of the airport and home to many airport employees. It is a very nice safe place and people drive golf carts everywhere. The two main corporate airports are peachtree dekalb in chamblee and charlie brown airport west of atlanta near six flags.

Dobbins is an Air Force base, not an airport, not sure if it matters but when you are looking for jobs you will need to make that distinction.
