Why not? If they can land C-130's there, it can certainly handle commercial jets. The location is perfect, and there's plenty of property around the airfield to accomodate parking, terminals, etc. It'd be alot easier than upgrading some of the smaller existing airports like PDK or building from scratch, and the surrounding area already has the air traffic/noise, so you wouldn't get as much resistance as you would in another location.

I agree the NAS would be good. But It may throw Smyrna and Cobb property values down. And you still put people in the position of comming through Atlanta to get to the airport. People in Dacula get no benefit, people in Woodstock make out from it.

I do agree that Dobbins has the runway and terminal space for some commercial traffic. The catch would be the reaction from Cobb county citizens, were such a proposal to be seriously entertained.

Do we REALLY need another airport? Its not like THAT many people actually board and originate flights from Atlanta. Most of the air traffic comes from the connecting flights. Atl does not have the kind of origination traffic to support another airfield. Hartsfield is fine where it is, and it provides jobs that are essential to the S. Fulton/North Clayton/North Fayette Co. areas. Cmon' now people, all the good stuff doesnt always need to be in North Atlanta Metro lol. Let the southside have some nice things too.

BUT......, I do agree that gettin ur luggage is a major hassle. I should not have 2 wait an hour or two just to get ONE bag off the carousel. But I blame airport staff and baggage handlers for that. Ghetto as all get out lmao. Ah...only in Atl.

The current airport would remain in business if a second airport opened. There would still need to be people working at both airports.

Hartsfield's O&D traffic is already more than the combined O&D of several metro markets with multiple airports such as Houston and Tampa.

Keep in mind that it will take about 20 years to bring a new airport online. And by that time the ARC projects the metro population will be between 7-8 million.

There was a study that showed that a maglev to Chattanooga could relieve congestion. Why study a second airport?

I DO NOT want a second airport ANYWHERE in the metro area and the noise and pollution it would bring. If it were to be built, it'd have to be farther out than Cartersville.

I'm all for the maglev to Chattanooga and NOT for a second airport.

I would connect thru CLT anyday over that terrible airport at ATL
That's just nonsense. Of course you'd rather connect through CLT or many other small airports. It's easy to run a small airport. But you can't make connections through them. It's like saying Atlanta has the worst roads in the country, you'd much rather drive in Macon.

Of comparable airports, ATL is IMHO the best in the world. If you want to really find a major international airport with lost, stinking people, terrible transportation and parking, lots of missed connections and baggage problems, make your connections through JFK, Charles de Gaulle, ORD, or Heathrow sometime.
