Areas north and west of the square are nice and historic-like. There is a lot of diversity so you can probably find what you are looking for (although it is going to be expensive). Areas east and south of the square are much more dilapidated and the city is currently working to rejuvenate the them. You can probably get a pretty good deal on a fixer upper there, but the neighborhood might be kind of sketchy for a while. I'm not sure how many houses are brick bungalows.
