Tucker is not a good place to rent an apartment, but it is a very good place to own a home. I lived in Tucker for 20 years, moved away for several years, and happily came back four years ago after seeing how bad City of Atlanta can be. I'm staying.
Hey JPD, just curious, ur comment on moving back from city of Atlanta caught my attention. What did you not like about it? Im wondering cause Ive been considering moving into midtown area. Always like to get others opinions who have lived down there!

The specific neighborhood I lived in was terrible, and the city did a poor job providing services.

I lived just southwest of West End on Cascade Road. We got tired of having to drive to other parts of town to find decent grocery stores and restaurants...or any type of store, really. We also got tired of our neighbors creating mountains of trash by the curb, which the city apparently refuses to pick up in that part of town. Some cops got shot at the end of our old street just last week.

There are plenty of places in the City of Atlanta that are nice, and we'd live there now if we could have afforded it when we bought a home.

Default Help!!

I am moving to the Atlanta area and having a hard time deciding on where to go. I want Decatur (North Decatur 30030) but its very expensive. Ive been looking in Norcross at 2 places, one on peachtree corners circle and on on Holcomb Way. Is Norcross an area that is bustling or is it woodsy and remote? Then ive been looking in Tucker on Branch Drive at a condo. Im confused on where to go!!! My biggest concern is the schools because my son is in M.S and is about to go to high school, then i want to be in an area not to remote that is very close to Atlanta. Im from Connecticut but right on the line of NY so i like to have the CIty very close to me. I also like to be close to hospitals and shopping centers etc. And do not want to be in an area riddled with crime, home invasions etc. Can anyone help me im a mess!

It's worth noting that Tucker High School is currently being replaced with a new building...on the same piece of land, while school is in session. Right now, 1/3 of the school and the front parking lot has been torn down. When they finish rebuilding that part, they'll tear down another portion and rebuild that part, and so on until it is completed in 2010 or 2011. Tucker is a great place to live, and will be even better once the school is finished, but the current and ongoing state of construction should be taken into consideration if you have kids who would be attending school at THS in the next two years.

Here's a website about the construction project:

JPD will probably be along shortly with observations on Norcross.

Peachtree Corners is the better part of Norcross --Spalding Drive and parts north.

Here's a recent thread>>>

If you want to be closer in--take a look at the Toco Hill/Executive Park/Northlake area. Not certain what is going to happen with the schools in DeKalb, FWIW.

LOL, JPD--you need to make a trip soon. Just get on Tucker-Norcross Rd and head west, Pioneer that you are.

I'm still thinking about a trip to Tucker to try the New Orleans/Creole restaurant--it's about that time--Mardi Gras.

The first jonquils are up over here--Briarcliff/N Druid Hills. Spring is just around the corner.

Thank you all for the info. Do you know if Branch Drive in Tucker is on the Gwinnett side or Dekalb side? I also think the school that is in that district is Henderson which is in Chamblee, so very confusing. Also lastly, is Norcross pretty close to downtown Atlanta and is it city like or rural? Thanks.
