Tucker GA
I have been looking to relocate from Ann Arbor to Atlanta and need information on Tucker, Georgia. Is this a safe area? Someone said the entire area is safe. Is this true?
Additionally, what about Norcross? The home at which I am looking seems nice but it's hard to tell what the general area is like.
Any information is appreciated.
Thanks!

There is a section between Tucker and Norcross that is plagued by crime and poverty--IIRC--Tucker-Norcross Rd turns into Jimmy Carter Blvd/Beaver Ruin Rd/Indian Trail Rd/Lilburn and this is where the problems are.
Historic Norcross and Peachtree Corners are very good areas. You can check with the Norcross and/or Gwinnett County Police Departments to verify the crime stats.

Those areas are not in Tucker. Tucker Norcorss Road does not turn into those roads, it intersects them.
Tucker is a very safe place to live. The areas around the aging apartment complexes (a couple of complexes on Idlewood and a couple complexes on Lawrenceville Hwy) are the bad areas.
Tucker is not a good place to rent an apartment, but it is a very good place to own a home. I lived in Tucker for 20 years, moved away for several years, and happily came back four years ago after seeing how bad City of Atlanta can be. I'm staying.

What about this area? Near Old town Norcross off Beaver Ruin Road in Edgemoor North Subdivision.
I am wondering what a commute from Tucker would be to downtown/Midtown. Thanks for any help!!

I am looking into Tucker. In which area of the city should I be looking (North/West, etc.)? I found some homes in the area but need to be sure that they are safe.
It is very tough to find a home to rent when you can't research the area IN PERSON
Also, what's your opinion on an average commute time to downtown/Midtown?
Thanks for your suggestions, please keep 'em coming!!

My commute from Brockett Road in Tucker to Five Points downtown is as follows:
AM - Walk out my front door at 7:20, sitting at my desk at work at 7:55. (That's about 25 or 30 minutes of driving time and 5 minutes to park and walk a couple blocks to my building. The commute is roughly 12 miles one-way.)
PM - Leave work at 4:30, arrive at home at 5:05 or 5:10

I'd probably try to stick with the Brockett or Livsey areas. Those are both in the eastern part of Tucker. Midvale is good, too. It's on the Esstern edge of Tucker, but it might be harder to find a house to rent in that part of Tucker.

JPD,
The OP asked about 'Norcross and Tucker'...
Since you have lived in Tucker for over 20 years I am certain you know the area better than I.
To the OP--
I know that Beaver Ruin Rd is undergoing some redevelopment near the Buford Hwy end...(possibly more commercial development?) FWIW--I have relatives that lived in the area until this past December--one of the first families in Gwinnett, according to some records.
If this subdivision is closer to Norcross High School--maybe it is in a better area. My aunt lives in historic Norcross and close to Buford Hwy/Beaver Ruin--has had 'a few' problems over the past decade.

Things have been 'pretty bad' on Beaver Ruin Rd

Sorry about that, I must've missed that. You're right about Jimmy Carter Blvd, Indian Trail, Tucker-Norcross, etc. Sadly, those roads have a lot of shabby areas.

Hey JPD, which apartment complexes on Idlewood are you talking about? I've seen some that didn't look that great not too far from the intersection with Lawrenceville Hwy. Is that it?
As you may remember from some of my other posts, we've been looking into buying a house off of Idlewood Rd. If everything goes well, we'll be moving into our new home in Classic Village next month.
Looks like we'll be neighbors.
