There is a great park in Dunwoody and Chastain Park on the border of Sandy Springs and Buckhead is also a nice one.

Hi ~~ Where are you moving from? My family just came down to the area from CT, looking at houses with the kids was really fun. My daughter loved American Girl Doll store! We didn't have alot of time
but, we'll be back soon! hopefully our house sells in time to get there for August!

We're moving from Dayton OH. My husband works with NCR which moved to Duluth last year. We've been waiting for our house here to sell for entirely too long. He has to be there by August 1st so this move is quickly apporoaching. I have an eight year old daughter so we'll definitely be going to the American Doll store! I also have a 3 year old and an 18 month old so we'll see how looking at houses goes with all of the kids!

In Cumming, you can also hike up to the Indian Seats on Sawnee Mountain...it depends on your children's activity level, might be best to plan on toting the 18mo, though. My kids made the hike at 3yo with enthusiasm, it's not very far. Here's a blog about it, with photos:

There is also a covered bridge and nice play area at Setting Down Creek on the west side of the county. It's called Poole's Mill, have not found the 'best' website about it, most just feature the bridge, but there's lots more to it than the bridge. The 8yo would have a blast playing on the rocks in the creek, it's got a nice flow there, and there's a 'regular' playground for the smaller kids.
Just wanted to give you some old-school options for the area. These are the places that locals loved long before they became County Park areas.

There is a water park in Marietta...I think it is part of Six Flags. My kids are similarly aged and really enjoy it. Of course we try to do more of the "nature-y" type activities but they LOVE the water park.

Since you will be house-hunting near Cumming, you may want to check out Amicalola Falls which is just north of Forsyth County (
Amicalola Falls State Park and Lodge ). It only costs $5 to park and then you can hike up to the 729 Foot waterfall. It is very nice IMO!

Thank you guys! I'm so excited to explore all the things to do in Atlanta. For this trip, my daughter really wants to go to a beach at Lake Lanier. The only thing online that I'm finding is the waterpark. Any good places for a quick visit to the lake for the kids to play for an hour or so?
