Does anyone work for or know someone who works for the State of Georgia. How is it working there? What are the pros and cons of working there. I have just been offered a job there. Coming from NY the salary is low and I want to know if it is worth it especially since i have a child.

I work here. There are many agencies so it's hard to speak for all of their behalfs. Georgia's going through budget problems, so prepare for furloughs. There is flexibility in my position, sick, have another event, take off (though I get paid hourly).....

Given the state of the economy here, I can't imagine that the state is doing much hiring now. In fact, I think that there are hiring freezes, furloughs and potentially layoffs.

Proceed carefully.

the "state" includes positions from attorneys to street sweepers down to litter pickers (yes they are below street clean up crews)
