Would it be a bad idea to place mixed race children in a Cumming public school? My husband and I noticed that the housing is beautiful, yet cheap, and that the schools have excellent ratings. But, of course, we are concerned about the lack of diversity and the City's horrible history. Is it still racist, or are the people more accepting of other races? Also, would my children be taunted in these schools and not have friends, or would they fit in as in any other school?

Thanks.

Go to greatschools.net and check out the demographics of the schools.

You will need to look under Forsyth County schools, as Cumming does not have its own school system.

For the 15th time.... NOBODY here in the metro cares about interracial kids or couples!!! Nobody!! It is as common here as the morning dew. It is not racist and nobody would bother your kids. There are probably dozens like them already there. Why do people keep asking about this? Do they think we are Alabama here?

There are wackos everywhere, and, yes, I mean everywhere! But there are not packs of racist wackos roaming from neighborhood to neighborhood burning crosses, even in Cumming! I agree with KevK; it is frustrating to us to hear these questions over and over again. I understand that Forsyth County, in particular, has a checkered past, but Forsyth County now has a large Hispanic population, so it is no longer lilly-white.

Just be aware that racism raises its ugly head everywhere, including the Northeast and the Pacific Northwest! The South does not have a corner on the market for stereotypes and racism!

Atlanta is not always perceived in a positive light by folks in other parts of the country, especially when it comes to things like education and race relations, even though most of those folks have probably never visited the Atlanta metro.

I admit I was rather surprised at how untrue some the things I "knew" ... or had been told ... were after I actually moved down here from the Twin Cities five years ago, and the surprises were mostly positive. The Atlanta metro has some VERY good schools, most people down here seem to actually get along with each other, etc.

Yes, you have a number of losers and the resulting crime, etc., but that happens in any group of 5+ million people.
