Hi,

Female colleague is moving to Atlanta and wanted some help. Work is just outside intersection of I75/I285.

Area's under considerations, Vinings, Buckhead, midtown, Atlantic Station. Safety is an important factor, but with good social aspects and shopping facilities.

What constitutes Buckhead exactly? What area can I drive around to see some apartments that are representative of the area? Same question for Mid town?

Budget is around $2000-$2500 a month. Need a 1-2 bed apartment.

In terms of nightlife, where are the more upscale places to eat and drink? Want to mix with professional people in their late 20's early 30's.

Thanks

Midtown is generally considered to be between North Avenue and 14th/17th streets (and between about Spring Street and Monroe Street). Georgia Tech and Atlantic Station is on the west border, and Va Highlands on the East border. For your budget (which you will find is probably a little high for Atlanta), I would look at the apartment complexes along Peachtree Street proper.

I personally like Midtown and would recommend it to anyone single and coming to Atlanta - it's in the middle of things, easy highway access, MARTA access, a lot of restaurants, close to Piedmont Park.

Atlantic Station might be an option. Check it out, but I would recommend Midtown, Buckhead, Atlantic Station, and Vinings in that order. However, I haven't lived in Buckhead or Vinings. I live near Atlantic Station and while it is convenient if I had a choice I would choose Midtown proper.

I vote for Midtown too. Here are some links that you can pass on to your colleague:

Midtown Alliance
www.piedmontpark.org
MidtownAtlanta.org - News and Events
The Essential Reference Site for Midtown Atlanta
Directory of Midtown Atlanta Area Nightlife - Atlanta NightGuide

Also, the commute should be a reverse one with lots of options other than the highway.

Another vote for Midtown. That budget would allow a fantastic rental in a very nice condo in the heart of everything. The breezy reverse commute from there would be an added bonus.

As usual, George provided excellent links!
