I don't think that's exactly true though. I don't have any numbers, but my parents live in East Point and their bill seems to be going at about the same rate. I'd imagine that it would be a much bigger deal if East Point was charging double for electricity.

The one thing about East Point I have found to be common is that most of the house in the area weren't built with energy efficiency in mind...and not mention a lot of the houses are pretty drafty. I don't want to speak for that person, but chances are they blasted the A/C noon and night, didn't have their house properly sealed, and thus ended up running up a big bill.

Good points,

I'm hoping that is not the case. We've been looking at East Point very recently. We found a few fixer uppers, and there's one that interested us, and we're thinking of buying (if the price is right and if we can get a better idea of the taxes there), and do a full renovation (to live in, of course). We're crunching numbers. I don't know the neighborhoods too well. I'll have to do more probing and get to know the area better.

I love the proximity to town...and the airport.

no, i don't blast my ac day and night, and i actually compared price per kilowatt between ga power and east point. i live in a small 2 br apt. i keep doors closed and vents covered in unoccupied rooms. i keep my ac at 80 or above. in july, my electric bill was $397. i don't have a bunch of things running. i turned my ac up more after july, and my bill went down to $275. during moderate months, my bill ranges from $150 to $200. i'm expecting my bill to hit $300 again once i turn my heat on for the winter, but i plan on beating that by buying more blankets and maybe a snuggie or two.

I am thinking of buying a property on victoria drive in east point. It appears to be 12 min. from jefferson ave. Is it a safe area? are the property values sound? I have never been to east point.

Is it an investment property? I would strongly advise you to go see it first. Generaly, it is not a safe area. house break ins and car break ins are normal. They have section 8 housing sprinkled all around.

Default Electricity

Have you looked into using Shell for electricity? I don't know if they still provide it, but my dad used them for EP electricity for a long time. Maybe lower rates was the reason.
