I did not get to visit any jazz clubs while there.

I like contemporary and traditional jazz. Does Atlanta have a contemporary jazz radio station?

WCLK (Clark-Atlanta University) is the only game in town now-
There was a regular commercial "smooth jazz" station in town- but it crumbled to lousy listener-ship and the lack of advertising $$$. Albeit, jazz stations across the country fight an uphill battle for a piece of the pie.
Dave Koch (former music director for the ill-fated Atlanta station WJZZ) started an internet station after getting the ax- now it's about to get the ax itself. He's running out of money an is asking for donations to keep the thing afloat- Yeah! Good Luck with that!
I pretty much rely on my MP3 phone and an extensive library of jazz CDs and iTunes.

Fortunately, I also have a jazz club practically in my backyard- It's called Londzell's(sp).

Our college stations can be good sources for jazz programming.

WREK 91.1 (GA Tech) plays jazz each weekday from 9-12.

WREK Atlanta, 91.1 FM | quality, diverse programming
"Just Jazz (Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 12:00pm)
Music that would make Kenny G ill. Jazz music encompassing everything from big band classics to straight ahead swing to cutting edge improvisation. From Louis Armstrong to Sun Ra, you'll hear it all on Just Jazz."

WRAS 88.5 (GA State) plays jazz every Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm.
WRAS-Atlanta, 88.5 FM: Album 88 (http://www2.gsu.edu/~www885/specialty.html - broken link)

"10am-12pm: Big Band Jump w/ Don Kennedy (syndicated): website

BIG BAND JUMP is a two hour weekly program now in its seventeenth year of syndication, heard on nearly 200 radio stations of Big Bands and Vocalists of yesterday and today, featuring both original and later Swing music, with background information hosted by Don Kennedy.

12-2 pm: The Blue Note:

The Blue Note is one of the longest running shows on WRAS, going back over 10 years. On the Blue Note we play jazz--mainstream jazz from the 1950s and 60s including artists such as Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Ark Blakey, Cannonball Aderly, Donald Byrd, Dave Brubeck and more. We also focus on playing new releases from contemporary talented jazz artists. Virtuoso jazz players who push the envelope a bit are our bread and butter on the Blue Note.

Hosted by: Yoon & Andrew J."
