Gangs have been in Henry for years, but I agree they are becoming more problematic. You used to hear about them in northern Henry. Now they appear to be in every area of the county. Residents need to be aware of their increased presence.

Yes, it is very scary. It's amazing that people actually refuse to admit the problem because they are afraid it will hurt the image of the county.

Because We Care Henry County-Atlanta South
4 hrs · Stockbridge, GA ·
Gangs are here in Henry County and the threat real!

Gangs are operating in Henry County and the time to increase police protection is now! Henry County, the petty crime and robberies popping up in our county have gang ties. Please keep in mind south Dekalb county borders north Henry County. Gang activity has been reported in several High and middle schools in Henry County including Henry County middle and high, Stockbridge Middle and High, Dutchtown, Eagles Landing middle and High and others. Know what signs to look for and monitoring social media is a must!!!
The Cobb County DA just announced they were charging suspected gang members with gang crimes as well after a rash of car break-ins in the county. Henry County DA Wright said they look for these same affiliation and charges as well in a meeting with him and the NAACP earlier this year. Parents must be vigilant and aware of what their kids are doing, who they are spending time with, and certain colors like blue and black worn by the Gangsta Disciples for example.
Henry County public safety budgets must be increased to combat the growing issue and coordination between various departments in our area is a must to get a handle on the situation. We want it said on the streets don't think about coming to Henry County they don't play!
The tell tell signs of backdoors being kicked in along the Walt Stephens Rd corridor in Stockbridge, armed robberies in McDonough and the home invasion/rape of an elderly woman in North Henry are symptoms. I call on the County, city of Stockbridge and city of McDonough to increase police budgets fighting on the front line and to increase interdiction in our schools. Some of the educational challenges we face in schools have roots in fear and intimidation some students encounter daily. The threat is here and growing the next move is ours. Our police are doing a great job with the resources they are given but the time is now to increase those resources as the population levels surge. Failing to plan now is planning to fail. We cannot let that happen, the time to increase budgets for police protection should be a priority.

Henry's done in 10 years top. Let's be honest with ourselves.

I've been saying it for a while now. Suburbs will slowly deteriorate while the inner city continues to revitalize.

I believe you are correct. I have watched the county go downhill for the past few years. It's a shame that those in power have allowed the overbuilding, especially of cheap, cookie-cutter homes. I know there are many upscale areas, but those are heavily outnumbered by cheaper starter-type homes.

It's false to say that suburbs in general will continue to deteriorate, but some certainly will. Henry County is a prime candidate due to it's location adjacent to other counties that have gone downhill in the past decade or so. Clayton County has spread it's joy to everything that touches it. It's strange that both Clayton and Henry were quiet, relatively safe, almost rural counties 25 years ago...and now they are on the edge of destruction. How does that happen in such a short period of time?

Suburbs in general will not deteriorate to that extent. The vast majority of Atlanta suburbs are still booming and on the upswing at the moment and I don't see them headed the opposite way anytime soon.

Atlanta demolished their projects and those people found their way to Clayton. This eventually became a place for poor minorities and immigrants that eventually moved to other areas. Thankfully not all of the newcomers were bad and I believe Clayton is better because of it. It's in a better position being close to the city and the airport and being diverse. Soon everyone will want to move to the sourhside. As far as Henry goes, it still has its advantages and as long as the residents don't run in fear and stand for their community it will survive.

Another home invasion in Henry County that is rumored to be gang related. Thankfully, the residents weren't hurt, but the two perps were shot and killed.
