Depends on a lot of things, the most important being where you'll be working- There's a big difference between the commute from Marietta and the commute from Cartersville.

sounds like to me u might need to be in the city of atlanta proper. All the towns u listed are mainly suburbia and are not consider part of atlanta. All the aforementioned towns are their own municipality. I recommend the buckhead district for you. Ample night life, great eating, great shopping, nice residents, an ecclectic blend of people that u might find refreshing u being from NY and all.

Technically, none of these towns are in NE Georgia. They are in NW Georgia.
With the exception of Cartersville, these are suburbs of the NW metropolitan Atlanta area. Cartersville is actually exurban Atlanta, at least 40 miles from the city center.
For the most part, you will get a very 'suburban' experience in these cities...single family subdivisions, large yards, relative quiet. Marietta would be the most 'urban' of the group, being closest to the city and having a lovely town square of its' own.
However, if you are looking for the nightlife and crazy times, I wouldn't recommend any of these communities.

IDK, with Atlanta shutting down at like 2 or 3 Cobb might be a better fit lol. Clubs are still open till atleast 4 lol. Also, here in Cartersville all the Hispanics (not being racist cause it doesn't bother me) get away with having LOUD parties ALL THE TIME! So the suburbs might not be that bad of a choice. I was just at a cookout the other day and it was some Hispanics a couple of houses down so loud it sounded like somebody was chasing people with an ax lol. And this was not a rural neighborhood with houses spaced out! All in all I would recommend none of those cities and not even Atlanta but some of towns in Dekalb County. More of a real city nightlife since places don't shut down early and it is still VERY close to the city with a city feel to it. Such a city feel a lot of people in Decatur think they are in proper Atlanta lol!

I would also recommend Dekalb County as being the best for your requirements. It does have clubs, community events, and a huge immigrant population, so it's very receptive to newcomers.
With that said, if you are dead set on something more suburban, I would say Marietta would be the best bet. It has a good amount of transplants and people of foreign backgrounds, and wouldn't be as opposed to loud mouthed crazy Caarribeans lol. Avoid Cartersville however; I've never felt that to be a place receptive to people who are different, especially Northerners.

Agree with LD, and would add that many transplants live in Cobb. Kennesaw State University and Town Center Mall are close together, and there are actually quite a number of places to go out, but some are chains and some are geared to college kids. You will not find trendy bistros and the like.
