Small town near Augusta
My husband and I are considering a move to the Augusta area. We prefer small town living and water sports. Any advice/info?

Look into the Thompson area. Not too far from Augusta, and very near to Lake Thurmond. There are plenty of small towns in the greater Augusta area, even where I am on the SC side of the river.

Augusta
The "Augusta area" is nice, but you do not want to live in Augusta, South Augusta or Richmond County - period!
Thompson (north of Augusta - 30 minutes from Augusta) is a nice, friendly little town with a "small town" feel to it. Good high school.
Martinez and/or Evans (West of Augusta and 15 - 20 minutes out) are also very nice with great schools. They are growing like crazy.
The area is lovely with a lot of activities, many resturants. Mid-upper class

Why not Augusta?....thinking of moving there.
Hello to Cotton.....I read where you would NOT recommend living in Augusta, Arkansas. My brother lives there.....I now live in Illinois......and he's been wanting me to move there and share a very nice house he purchased there. He has always lived in California and chose Augusta because he said he liked it better than Searcy where his daughter lives.
Would you please post why you would not recommend living there......it could help me make my decision. I would appreciate it very much.
PS: I am leaving October 12 to visit him there......is there anything particularly I should look for as a negative before deciding to move there?
Again, Thank you VERY much.

North Augusta
North Augusta is actually in South Carolina, just over the river. It is a charming town with upscale plans and current developments. We take our boat to Lake Thurmond (about 40 minutes from here) and do water sports. It's fantastic. We go to Augusta frequently for shopping, dining, etc., but we will always live in North Augusta. The Chamber of Commerce has a nice website and they will mail you great information if you request it. Good luck!

I've lived in Evans and Martinez (north side of the tracks of course). Both are pretty awesome. Evans has more places to eat than you can shake a finger at and of course a super walmart. Martinez isn't heading in the right direction but still has many nice areas.
Not many nice places in Augusta proper to live in although I love the city itself and left a part of me there. Great people across the board.
I'm surprised people like Thomson. I didn't like it much and the people I knew from there had issues.
