Have family that may move to aiken for jobs..they in ohio, very upscale, manicured lawns, pride in ownership...white collar area. Everything that they need is no more than a 10 minute drive (malls, grocery you name it).

They may be taking a job in aiken and while it seems like its a great place to retire, I am wondering if it will be too slow...would you say there are parts of augusta or suburbs of augusta that would be safe for older folks and upscale in nature..away from the urban or inner city crime?

The only problem with Summerville/the Hill area in Augusta is that it is located very near areas that are less than desirable. They should check into some of the neighborhoods in and around the south and west sides of Aiken and in North Augusta.

Thank you very much, they just like my parents, so just want to make sure they would be in a safe area. Seems like columbia county would be a good place to look into....

Personally, I told them to learn golf, mix up with the neighbors and just live in aiken...but they noticed that there is appears to be a temple in augusta..so I know the would want to be near a place of worship in the south asian indian community. Am I reaching or is there any indian restaurants in the area?

There's the one in Aiken that I mentioned, there's another in Warrenville not far from the west side of Aiken. There are also some that others have mentioned on the forum in Augusta/Columbia County, but I can't remember where and I've not been to them, hopefully some of the other posters can help with that...

Summerville/Hill is located beside nice areas and Harrisburg. And it's located near the nice side of Harrisburg. The other side of Harrisburg some may considered less than desirable. But this has nothing to do with crime stats in the area. Martinez, North Augusta, and Aiken all have more crime than Summerville/Hill. There is no bad part of Summerville/Hill. While there are bad/sketchy areas in Martinez, North Augusta, and Aiken.

I did a google search to find the specifics on the Indian Restaurants:

indian restaurant augusta ga - Google Maps

There's 1 in Columbia County and 2 near the Columbia/Richmond County line.

There's also the 1 on Aiken's southside, the one in Warrenville isn't listed though.

Evans routinely scores as one of the best places to retire although it wouldn't be much different than Aiken in my opinion. I think you would be surprised with what Aiken had to offer.
