I agree with you eastsidedave that something needs to improve downtown growth but I don't think bass pro shop is the answer. what i meant by recipe for disaster, I meant from business point of view for BPS. I just don't think right now the downtown people traffic can support such a large business despite the T center currently being built. Downtown isn't in the minds of most augustans when it comes to shopping. hopefully one day with improved leadership and continued growth, it will.

With Costco now in the works it will be interesting to see where BPS goes now. Is the Village at Riverwatch still a viable spot? Still think it would be best if they both went in the area to Carmax. I wonder if Columbia County is cookin up anything(doubt it) to lure in BPS. The Grovetown exit would be a really nice spot for it(interstate traffic, proximity to the lake). Regardless of where it goes its going to be a big draw as long as its near I-20.

I'd rather it went at the VAR site, mainly because it'd be a shorter drive for me :-P

The article could have explained things a bit further.... The OP's orginal article and the WRDW article are pretty similar in the wording...The article doesn't separate the Village at Riverwatch from Augusta...

Fred Russell brings up how other new stores will come to the VAR... It would nice to know when BPS decides to build new stores in the next few years... Is a Augusta location totally out of the picture or just the VAR??

maybe if bass pro is not interested at the moment perhaps Cabelas or Gander Mountain?

I know Cabeleas has paired up with holidays Inns in the past a lot and created joining storefronts combined with family entertainment example http://www.splashuniverse.com/ Its Cabela's, outdoor archery range, indoor shooting range, the actual store, Holiday Inn, and then the adjoining indoor/outdoor water-park and family entertainment facility ( it has putt putt also and go karts)

Is there any indoor out door family water facility yet? Depending on whats available could be an interesting mix.

I'd be telling a tale if I said, "I am surprised." It's all up to Costco now. The sooner they get it built, the better.
