I like how Savannah has big names with street shops downtown. It's pretty cool to go to a gap without having to walk through a mall.

I think it depends on what type of shopping. There is better shopping choices in downtown Savannah compared to Augusta. But there are alot more national chains(Apple, Pandora, Jared Galleria, CSS, Williams-Sonoma, Sephora, and soon to be Costco) here in Augusta who don't have a location in Savannah yet.

If Augusta had more national chains in the downtown setting, it wouldnt be close.

Some of what's considered the Savannah area retail is located in the Hilton Head / Bluffton area. Especially outlet stores.

Unless Savannah's builds a new lifestyle center/mall and several shopping centers or commerce parks, etc.... I expect Augusta to jump farther ahead in the lead.... VAR, Flowing Wells Business Park, the 25 acre shopping center on Jimmie Dyess start construction next year.... Next year Wheeler Town Park and Highland Ridge will probably have some construction going on.... Crane Creek which is under construction off Walton Way Extension/I-20 is zoned B-2... I suspect the development might feature residential, retail, and maybe office space...

They both are pretty similar, I'd give the edge to Savannah. But like one person said, a few things that aren't in Savannah can be found in Hilton Head. Augusta has Walking Co., Coach, Sephora, etc. while Savannah has a Marc Jacobs, Urban Outfitters, etc.
