Hi! I've tried in vain to get more information with regards to Augusta, GA being named one of the best cities to live and retire. I've been looking at the outskirts of Atlanta as a possibililty for relocation for a few months, however, this info has now peaked my interest in Augusta. Can anyone tell me where I could possibly find the reasons behind the Wall Street Journal's decision??? Did'nt have any success with WSJ's website! Thanks!!

Thanks so much for the info! It gives me a lot of insight for the feel of the town. My husband and myself are primarily interested in new housing. I tried to pull info on new housing developments in Augusta, but found precious little of it. If anyone is familiar with Augusta, can you please tell me if I'm missing something or if this is a fairly layed back town with older, established housing.
Thanks for your help again!!!

You know......I'm not even sure. This entire area is so new to me because my primary focus has been on Atlanta. I'll research it a little bit more tomorrow. I would love to be in close proximity to the river, but it would probably cost an arm and a leg. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

No....unfortunately we will not be retiring right away. My husband had plans of applying to work with the state or Federal goverment. He is an accountant. I will probably remain home for a while and then look for an office worker position. I'll soon be 53, so I won't have long to go. I'm sure that the outskirtsof Augusta would be fine. We are looking for new single family housing developments within the range of $250,000 to $325,000. At our age, we wanted to be a little on the conservative side. Hope you can help. Thanks!!!

Thanks for taking the time to lead the blind around GeorgiaBoy. We are relocating from Baltimore, MD and I know very little about Atlanta (went househunting in the outskirts of Atlanta about 3 weeks ago) and virtually nothing about Augusta. This forum has been a tremendous help, but I guess there is nothing like going to see it for yourself. If anyone has any further information, please shoot it my way! Thanks again!

We lived in the Augusta area for seven years. My daughter is still there, so we visit often.
The Evans area sounds like what you're looking for. There's so much new housing being built in areas all around Augusta, but Evans is one of the nicer areas. You could start out on realtor.com or the Augusta Chronicle to get an idea of housing prices. For the price range you're looking in, you'll get something wonderful.
