I would have to disagree with those saying that the area is ultra conservative, as a moderate person myself, I have never had any problems. I think the same issues arise between people of different opinion in any area of the country, not just here. For the most part I have not had anybody shun me for my views and have made friends on both sides of many issues, this is a very friendly area. I have been in this area for a year and live in Evans, I grew up in Colorado, so I know where you are coming from. My husband is very athletic and we have found the area to be sufficient for biking, kayaking, hiking, etc. As to healthy eating, we also tend to eat healthy and there are 2 nice grocery stores that cater to healthier foods-organic, vegetarian etc-as well as some good restaurants. And the local chain stores have some of those options as well. I was worried about this area, as I came form a larger city, but I have become comfortable here. If you have children, most people prefer Columbia county for the schools. I would be happy to answer any other questions you may have of the area.
