Some Richmond County department heads get raises

This is stupid how come you fire people then give over paid people 15% raises? Fred Russell gave hisself a raise $133,000 what hell is going on. This is a shame the samething going on in Washington trying to pocket all the money and get the best health care for their self.

Sounds fishy to me... can't wait to hear this one. I don't know whether to be happy they found the money (apparently) or disturbed that they lost 10.3 million in the first place. Quite an oversight for a city... pennies on a national scale.

After spending five years unsuccessfully thinking of a phrase to succintly describe the Augusta attitude, I had an epiphany to that respect, after spending a night of respite from it in Charleston.

"Don't know who you are, where you're from or what you do, but you OWE me, and you'd better not say nothin' 'bout it, either."

Politically? Demographically? Economically? Or just generally speaking?

I actually agree with you. A lot of the people of Augusta (especially it's leaders) have the attitude of "How does that benefit ME?" or "What's that gonna do for ME?" instead of "How's that going to benefit the everyone?"

I personally feel that a majority of the residents here do not feel this way only a small minority / unfortunately the minority are the ones who are elected giving of the perception that the entire area feels this way.

Georgia has 3rd highest poverty rate among states

ATLANTA (AP) — New Census data shows that Georgia's poverty rate was the third highest in the country in 2010, up two spots from last year, with more than 1.8 million residents counted among the poor.

The only states with higher poverty rates in 2010 were Louisiana and Mississippi. Nationally, 15.1 percent of Americans were living in poverty last year.

Georgia also ranked eighth in the nation in the number of uninsured residents, at a rate of 19.4 percent. Roughly 1.9 million Georgians did not have health insurance last year as the state joined a challenge to President Barack Obama's health care plan, meant in part to address rising numbers of people without health insurance.

Only Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, South Carolina and Texas had higher rates of uninsured residents.
