If you've never been to Augusta or haven't visited the city in a while.. I would suggest spending a day or two in Augusta next month.. The Arts in the Hearts festival was the largest(over 70k) festival until the Westobou was created(100k-200k) in 2008. The third biggest event is the Border Bash(GA vs SC football game event)

1. First Friday: September 2nd

2. Augusta Market: September 3rd(every saturday)
The Augusta Market - Diggin' the River!

3. The Saturday Sunset Cruise and Friday Moonlight Music Cruise start running again in September.. The regular boat tours are available for the majority of the year.

The Arts in the Heart festival starts this weekend(16th-18th).. More than 70k people over the three day event.. The festival is coming to Broad street this year, instead of being held at the Augusta Common(due to TEE Center/parking deck construction on Reynolds)..

Broad street from 7th to 10th shuts down at 12am today.. A section of 8th street and 9th/James Brown Boulevard was closed yesterday..

Westobou kicked off Thursday with smaller festival this year | The Augusta Chronicle

The fourth annual Westobou Festival, Augusta’s 10-day celebration of the arts, features big names, collaborations and one-of-a-kind performances. Tickets are available for many performances, and nearly half of the festival’s 50 events are free.

''We’re getting calls from people coming from North Carolina, Florida,” she said. “People are aware of what’s going on in Augusta.”

Not to burst your bubble, but these festivals hardly make Augusta a major tourist destination during September. The majority of folks who visit these live in the area. Major compared to what? Leaf peepers in North Carolina or Vermont? Skiing in Colorado? Now those are major industries where millions and millions are made from those tourists.

It's great that Augusta has a number of festivals. It's hard to do all of them in such a condensed time period. It's finally cooling down here and there's a million other things to do. I went to Arts in the Heart and I wasn't overly impressed. Neither was my husband. He was more disappointed than I was.

You're obviously not familiar with either the Westobou festival or ESI Ironman.. The Westobou easily attracts over 100k people each year. The ESI Ironman is the largest half Ironman in the entire world and creates around $5-$6 million in revenue.. The Arts in the Heart festival is a regional draw though(150-200 miles)..

I doubt the Westobou Festival attracts over 100K people....that would be more than The Masters.
Westobou is a great event for Augusta and its getting better, but its not even in the same league as Spoleto Festival in Charleston(which Westobou is patterned after)

100k for the Masters the entire week? That's seems a bit on the "low" side... and I work there.
