Personally I think Augusta should remap it's boundaries..... I think the city should end it's boundaries at Tobacco rd and brown rd to the south east..... Will this decrease the city population? If the city shrinks it will be less land to develop however it will allow the city to build on already existing land and upgrade existing structures..... It will also give hephzibah almost 3 times as many people which could help further establish the area of south Richmond...... Give it a thought.....

I agree with updating the structures especially downtown I mean why have a pink high rise and old dirty hotels for all to see? Augusta needs one theme and pink and dirty stucco high rises is not the move.

to answer the original question No. Columbia county was once a part of Richmond, the county seat of Augusta was too far away for many residents so Western Richmond broke away and became today's Columbia. Appling was established as the county seat which has now unofficially been moved to Evans. I would maybe open to this discussion if it were not for the fact that this same argument would be brought up again and cause so much infighting between the residents of the 2 counties it really would not be worth the headache but would have benefits such as consolidating many of the duplicate services that both counties provide such as Fire, Police, Trash, schools ect. but the county seat argument would be the spark that starts the wild fire 10 times worse than when Augusta-Richmond county consolidated.

I think for any city ( or surrounding counties) have alot to gain by seeing Augusta /Richmond county achieve , thrive, and grow. The big man on top mentality I haven't understood yet. I've been here a year now and I still don't =)
