And having lived in Augusta... those thousands of people who think it is a beautiful city have probably never lived in another place or know anything else. NOt sure what is more beautiful about Augusta.. all of the burned out crack houses or the boarded up dowtown?? Ewww that's a hard choice... How about the abandoned mall on Gordon Highway with weeds growing out of the parking lot? That's nice.. How about all of those wonderful eateries along Washington Rd.. you know.. McDonalds, Waffle HOuse, IHOP, Krystal..etc.. and don't forget the fine 5 star lodging just outside of the Augusta national... the econo lodge..Knights Inn.. and all of those flea infested flop houses masqerading as motels. And don't forget the fine shopping in downtown Augusta.. where you can find a polyester leisure suit at Rubens and manequins with lopsided wigs.. Or maybe its that lovely drive from the airport where you are treated to the wastewater treatment plant... and that hideous stretch of Gordon Highway that makes Flint, Michigan seem charming..

Im one of those thousands of ppl, and i have been to china, europe, born in ny, la, houston, miami, atlanta, charlotte, D.C., Philly, Boston, Tampa, Jacksonville, N.O., i could even add more cities. Like i said its thousands of ppl who have been out of augusta & ga even the southeast who still love augusta being their home. The mayor announced the Terry College of Business achievment, along with the other achievments about augusta during his city address. Read the first reply on the first page, & you can see what other positives augusta has ecountered spoken from the mouth of mayor deke copenhaver of augusta-richmond county.. The mayor stated this, along with the new multi-million dollar baseball stadium downtown by the water led by cal ripken jr who owns Augusta Greenjackets. See if you actually lived here, not just making bogus views you wouldnt have to ask you would know. Again i live in richmond county i see whats happening in augusta in 06 not 10yrs ago or 5 yrs ago when you lived there

If you take a good look at the statistics you will find the truth.
When you say that Augusta's economy will outpace the state avg in 2007 you aren't saying much. Georgia's economy has been in a slump for the last few years.. and the Terry College of business expects the state's economy to grow a measley 1.5 percent in 2007.. so it wouldn't be that hard to outpace the state avg in 07... but is an growth of 1.6% or 2% really an economic boom?? According to Richmond County it is. BUt consider for an entire decade.. The 90s.. when the rest of the state and the nation was enjoying one of the greatest economic expansions in history.. the economy of Augusta was set in neutral...What Richmond County is referencing are a couple of job announcements that have been made recently for Augusta... after years and years ofvirtually no job growth in Augusta.. any new jobs is good news.. but its a bit hasty to say companies are flocking to Augusta everyday and cal the area booming.. it simply is not. The new jobs that are coming to Augusta are low paying call center jobs (Delta Airlines) and other low paying service sector jobs (ADP).. these are not corporate level jobs.. high paying tech or IT jobs...or the other type of jobs that jump starts an economic boom. Augusta's bright side on its job market is and always has been its strong medical sector.. but beyond that.. there are just not many high paying professional jobs coming to the area... Customer service reps making $10 and hour are not going to revitalize the desolate downtown area or create a demand for more upscale dining and shopping choices that would help improve Augusta's image.

I was born and raised there. I just spent 4 days there visiting family. I would NOT choose to live there as a young person starting out in life. Way too much crime. Poor management and government corruption. Downtown area is disgusting compared to what it once was. Gangs on the south side. Forget about race....it is just a dying city. Any money there is held in a tight fist by old white families that do have prejudice.

I've lived in Hawaii, Florida, Idaho, California, Seattle, Texas, all over Europe - and will likely retire in the Augusta/Aiken/N. Augusta/McCormick area. How about that?

Racist Augusta
If you are into diversity do not bother coming to Augusta, Georgia. While there are many friendly people, this place is generally ignorant. The first thing people see is "color"; you will hear a lot of comments based on assigned race. People, generally, cannot have a conversation with a person outside their "race" without thoughts of race lying under the surface. The more you talk to them, the sooner you'll find out that "race" is very much on their mind. If I could change my life, I would not have spent the past decade here, which is why I am moving. This place is backward and the more you stay here, the more you get stuck in that mentality.

Everyone knows this place is called Disgusta; and with good reason. My friend has been here less than a year and I just heard her mention "disgusta" two days ago.

I have never heard it called that. I always hear people saying they love the way augusta is growing and becoming bigger and better. Thats probably why from 1990 to 2006 only metro atlanta has gained more people than augusta. And disgusta you can change your name a millions time barbie doll. But everybody knows who you are. Because you type the same thing. MWGAL joined 1/23/08 and barbie doll 1/24/08 not a coincidence.
