I would have to agree based on what i have seen of Augusta in the last month or so that I would not want to live here. Looks like to me the only thing this city has going for it is the masters being here, but that is only good for maybe one month out of the year. There is more for me to do on post than I could find to do in Augusta as far as nightlife. But these are just the views of someone on the outside looking in, much like anybody else that would be thinking of moving here. On a side note, I am not racist in anyway but it is very strange for me to be the minority for once in my life, and I just get the feeling from driving through some areas I wouldn't want to be there after dark for too long. (ie. the areas around broad street where the only nightlife I have managed to find is.)

Actually. Columbus' economy was picked to grow faster than the rest of the state.

Ok coming from a white girl who was raised here all her life in both Richmond and Columbia Ctys, my take is this. While Augusta is definately getting bigger and better. But still compared to Atlanta or many other major cities, we are still lagging back a good many years. The city of Augusta members have issues that need fixing definately. As far as a professional job/career. You would most definately fare better in Atlanta, depending on what you are looking for. As far as places to live in the area. What the majority posted about the mentioned neighborhoods are pretty much correct. Just stay away from South Augusta/Meadowbrook area.

OK, I'll try and break this stalemate...valid points are made on both sides. I am an Atlanta native but have spent a great deal of time in Augusta (mostly on business). The Walton Way neighborhoods "up the hill" are really lovely, and downtown has (largely unrealized) potential. But a lot of the city has a pretty seedy feel to it.
Bottom line: If I were a young single considering a move there, would I do it? Emphatically, no.

I agree! Even my sister (single, with a grad degree) can't find work in her profession here in Augusta, barely in Atlanta too. She is now in Ft. Lauderdale of all things.... working on boats. Free room and board, lots of money and gets to travel on nice big boats traveling the seas! FUN!
