Has anyone taken advantage of the housing situation for students? There aren't many good housing options for ASU students, does anyone here buy homes near ASU and turn them over to rent to students?

As I see it, there are only 3 convenient housing options: Cascades Pointe (nothing but bad reviews), University Village (Just as bad reviews, just more expensive...and apparently everyone is moving out this summer because of rent increasing $100), and Yorktown Village (nice, a bit dated, only has 4x1bdrm units available)

I'm interesting in flipping a house and renting to students, good idea?

Neither ASU or GHSU have traditional campuses compared to other universities.. ASU is suppose to build new dorms near University Village(West Campus), and freshman dorms on the East Campus(main campus; Summerville).. Then you have the GHSU/ASU future housing taking place on the riverfront campus, and GHSU brought the Fatmans property off 15th street/Druid Park for new dorms...

The majority of students live in the Central Business District, Summerville, Midtown, or Olde Town... A few of them live in places like behind Trinity Hospital, Harrisburg, and the Sand Hills neighborhoods....

Many of the homes near the ASU main campus(Summerville) are huge mcmansions, and mansions....

Cascade Pointe is nothing special, and accepts any local college students... The University Village will continue to have full occupancy(ASU main housing), and the only complaint I could understand is being overcrowded.... 90% to 95% of the students living there aren't from the metro Augusta area...

I would recommend Olde Town first because it's much further ahead, but Sand Hills and Harrisburg can offer what you're trying to accomplish...

I'm glad you ask the question before moving forward with your plans.. Please don't expect 500 people to move out of the University Village because the rent is increasing $100... The total enrollment at ASU, and the number of students not from metro Augusta both increased once UV opened a few years ago...

The old housing project Underwood has been transformed to something respectable in the Sandbar Ferry area. This could be an area students could flock to.

I doubt students will be flocking to East Augusta anytime soon.... A percentage of the first phase in Walton Oaks is for the elderly too..

After the student housing at the GGHF in the CBD and the ASU main campus is completed... The rest will live in the CBD, Summerville, Midtown and Olde Town... Then a few in Harrisburg, Laney Walker, and the new Foundry Place development starting soon..

Thumbs up Cascade no longer exists. Campus Side Apartments is new Student option

The old Cascade Pointe property and its previous name College station was taken over last April of 2012. Since then, the entire property has been entirely renovated, a perimeter gate and cameras have been added, and a lot of amenities favorable to student lifestyle. If you have read bad reviews about it in the past, give it another look. The management is focused on student housing needs. They set a high standard for the qualification process with criminal and credit background checks and have a close working relationship with the sheriffs department who frequent the property (mainly to use the free wifi).

It is a small apartment complex of 60 units (200 bedrooms). The faces of the community become familiar very quickly.
The clubhouse and pool area has been renovated nicely and is very social.

Its not affiliated with GRU (ASU) so it is not restricted to only GRU students. Military, students all schools in the area, and others attracted to all-inclusive rents and dont mind a roommate situation live at the property.

Plus, the management places residents using roommate profile questionnaires so you have a compatible roommate situation. The bedrooms are secure, you are on individual leases, and no bills are in your name so most of the roommate issues of living in a traditional apartment or house are mitigated. The 2 bedroom units also have their own private bathrooms so you only share the kitchen and living room areas. All bedrooms and living rooms are cable ready and there are WIFI access points in every 2nd floor apartment so signal is always good and stable. Its not the fastest, but its good for web browsing, email, and hulu. You can get your own modem for your room if you need very fast internet.

Anyway, for a housing option that caters to student lifestyle, this apartment community has made many changes and for the better.
