Possibly. But I don't see a ballpark going on that site. There's not muck Deke nor the the commissioners can do.

Yea, but any hope that Deke has to get a ballpark on that property (which would be his #1 location for the stadium)... is in the hands of the maniac that's currently running things at MCG. Hence the crickets from the mayors office possibly? Azziz hasn't ruled out a stadium on the property to the best of my knowledge...

I dunno, just seems to make some sense as to why the mayor has yet to say anything on the topic while the entire city and metro area are gathering the torches and pitchforks as we speak...

As we type, the Virginia Regent University is scouting for area lawyers. In the end, GRU won't stand. No way Dr. Sleepy and his bandits spend thousands of dollars just to shove that name down our throats. Why are people surprised this happened? He doesn't think Augusta is cool and probably wishes he was 2 1/2 hrs up the road. I give him credit. He wants to expand. Who's to say that that wouldn't have happened under any other person? MCG was/is going to grow regardless. And the same goes for ASU. There wasn't a need to consolidate the two schools to begin with. The schools weren't mired in debt, ASU was gaining national attention with its athletics, so why do this to begin with. But hey, if this works downtown Augusta may be revitalized. I'm tired of the same old same old in Augusta. Because this is exactly what it is, the same old same old.

[quote=The Magician;25544743]That's gonna be a hard sell. I can't say this enough. One of Augusta's biggest problems is that it doesn't have a strong mayor. Deke has no power.

I didn't agree with that he is a good mayor he brought more jobs then any other mayor in Augusta history. I support him 99.9% so don't blame this on him he just one man.
I do agree with you about Mr. Out The Cover because he definitely not undercover.

I don't agree we had to many mid size colleges completing for land to go to the next level so this just make it alot faster then wait for the 30yrs to have a university.

Yes they will continue to grow and they will boom let's just it time because you don't want to be the one eating your words down the road

I have no problems with the merger... it could be one of the best things to ever happen to Augusta, it broadens the curriculum, increases enrollment, increases notoriety, increases athletic standing as a move to Division-1 should follow soon there after... there are many more positives that can come from this than any potential negatives if DONE RIGHT.

So far... the first issue to have been addressed as a merged university, the name, has been grossly mishandled and has completely alienated the city from both of the top two schools in town... not to mention it's current students/alumni and the past/present employees of both schools are miffed as well. I wouldn't call that the best of starts...

There is an article that just came out on WRDW's website today... in it Dr. Azziz is flat out lying. Acting like any of the 3 names were possible, as if his teams weren't in Atlanta all but bribing Regents for GRU. It's a lie, plain and simple. The Regent Chairman Tarbutton was more than a little dishonest as well, he was the one trying to calm everyone down when the public found out about the backdoor stuff the day before the announcement of the selected name.

Message from BOR: Here's millions of dollars for a cancer center, sit down, shut up, and eat your peas Augusta.

The mayor is spineless and disappears anytime stuff like this happens, he's a good guy, but not who Augusta needs any longer. Augusta needs a fighter right now, and that, he is not.

The city will continue to grow and attract companies but never find that boon and boom under this regime.
Not hard at all from, naming the school, to Highspeed rail, (Augusta wasn't even considered in the plan) to the interstates,I-3 I-14. Augusta is the second largest city in Georgia and is constantly treated otherwise. There is no way to justify Georgia Regents University and claim that this name wasn't a political act of the higher ups. I agree with what one poster stated earlier. Atlanta should just become its own city and state and leave the other second teir cities to share some wealth, this is ridiculous.

I never blamed deke. He has no vote nor veto power so why would I? If I'm not mistaken, MCG was looking to build mostly downtown, while ASU was going to build up on the westside of town. If that is the case, there would be more construction all over Augusta as opposed to everything being centralized downtown. Now, I'm not against downtown develop. Truth Be Told, something was going to go up on the GGHF site anyway. Now those nice buildings that were going to go up on the westside are probably going to be scrapped and so will the traffic and business that would've been generated/created. Merger rose the enrollment and the cost of attendance. Both schools have nursing programs, I shouldn't have to state which one was cheaper... Why would I eat my own words? Both schools were building multimillion dollar projects and growing, I never said they weren't.

Would the merger help the public transportation revenue?

You know... he (Deke) would still like to see a stadium on the GGHF property that Azziz now controls... ya think that probably has something to do with why we haven't heard much of a peep out of the mayor's office at this point?
Yeah Russel is a douche!!
