VAR is on the verge of becoming a true work, live, play project. Housing is the last thing needed. Is a hotel slated for VAR?

"That site is connected to downtown by the canal, so you can have canal cruises coming from our city center and hotels downtown to go shop at Cabela's. It's a win win," said Copenhaver.

I was thinking along the lines of a people mover. Some type of light transit.

Id be shocked if this was a Nike town. Probably a Nike outlet store like most other Nike outlet locations.
Overall a good list of stores so far. I imagine the names will change seeing that we are 2 years out but most on the list are pretty solid outlet location tenants.

Good job Augusta

I will enjoy some of the stores coming.. but this development as a promised "lifestyle center" has fallen way short..

"A 260-unit apartment complex had been planned on the property last year but was later rejected by developers who cited fears of an oversaturated apartment market. Instead, a large parking lot will go where the apartments were scheduled, according to the rezoning report"

Lovely. Parking lots abutting the canal creating the perfect opporunity for runoff & no combined residential / commercial development. I don't understand why developers ignore the importance of surrounding topography and scenery.. Why not take advantage of the waterfront? So bizarre.

The Augusta Canal Authority supports the outlet mall and they've been working on protecting the canal since the VAR was originally proposed in 2005/2006..

The Bass Pro announcement in 2008 changed the VAR from a proposed lifestyle center....

The development has always included parking lots and the residential portion wasn't even apart of the VAR until 2013.

Adding the outlet mall to the development actually brings the development back more in line with the original plans.

Also the parking lot replacing the apartments was closer to the Delta part of the development, not the canal.

exactly, apartments on the var site is a no brainer. But, why no condo tower on this development? Between the masters visitors and cyber command employees, the tower units could easily be sold.
