Along with a few supporters we have been urging Ace Hardware to open a store on Tobacco Road near Windsor Spring. Until just 5 days ago they didn't seem interested. After two and a half years they finally asked if we would volunteer to escort them and show them the area. Happy to do just that. Along with the district 4 incoming and outgoing commissioners. If that happens and they do build here it would mean that every time we need a bolt or some paint, we wouldn't have to drive all the way to Peach Orchard road and back. After dealing with Ace in other locations I love the fact that you can walk into the store, tell them what you want and they take you right to what you need. No hunting for assistance. Please join us in hoping Ace Hardware will locate to south Augusta.

Aren't Ace stores kind of a franchise deal, though? Like Ace wouldn't be the one to build, but a franchisee would. But maybe they scout out places for when a franchisee is interested or something. Regardless, we need more of them around here. Love the service and more of a hometown hardware store feel of those places...and they have some great deals regularly, too. The only two around that I'm aware of right now are Culpepper out past Evans on Washington Rd. and one way out on the far side of Aiken.

Ace Hardware and True Value Hardware are franchises or co-ops.

Since I posted this I have learned a bit. Ace and True Value are indeed franchise operations. From what I've been told, nobody seems interested in investing in a franchise in this area.
However, a company called Fastenal already has a store on Tobacco Road near Woodlake. Investigation shows that they sell all types of fasteners, aerosol paints, saw blades and side grinder discs. The manager seemed very interested in expanding the walk in business to include hardware items. Imagine not having to drive all the way to Highway 25 to get a toilet repair kit or some hinges. We can get these folks on our side by stopping by and asking for what we need. Their current attitude is " if we don't have it we can get it." That sounded so good to me that I ordered a deck repair coating kit and the price was very competitive. It was waiting for me the next day. The newly elected District 4 commissioner seems pleased with this development and will do his best to help.

That would be a good location for Walmart with a Supercenter store. It will be bad news for Food Lion #407 (4104 Windsor Spring Road, Hephzibah, Georgia 30815-5984).

Yes it does look like a reality . The Walmart Neighborhood Market (not a supercenter) will be part of a larger development. The market will be 41,921 sq. ft. with a neighborhood fuel station and there will be an additional 14,800 sq. ft. of shops. The shopping center will be at the corner of Windsor Spring Rd. and Tobacco Rd behind the Rite-Aid, Sonic and Waffle House. It also looks like there will be 3 additional outparcel lots available for development.

This is very good news for South Augusta, because the 3 acres behind the new Walgreen's is already zoned commercial.. The same company is behind the Walmart shopping center under construction in North Augusta(I-20/exit 5)..

Publix, Target, and Kohl's will be coming to the area sooner or later(I-520/Windsor Spring/Tobacco)...

The Belair area/Southwest Augusta and South Augusta are really the only two places in RC with enough demographics to support another Target right now..
