Kick him when he's down. The majority of voting Americans voted for Obama. As usual, he was considered the best of the available candidates (maybe the least dangerous). Now listen to the politicians who were thrilled when he was elected tell us what a miserable failure he is and how they will miraculously change everything and turn this country around. One of those responsible for shutting down the government said at a recent rally that he is the catalyst to make things right. While the government was shut down and millions were losing money he cheerfully accepted his salary and benefits and really didn't have to worry about feeding his family. Are we really going to vote based on skin color and popularity again?
Check a picture of Obama when he was first elected. Then compare the most recent one. Does somebody who doesn't care about his job and family age that fast in 6 years?
Voting is a right and duty but not voting makes a statement too. When a certain political party used robo-calls during the last election to ring a person's phone constantly until they answered, many people including this writer were incensed when told that this infuriating tactic was considered politics as normal. Even though robo-calls are illegal in most areas. Communicating with the political party responsible revealed they will expand the practice in the future. Probably not on my turned off phone however. Even the Augusta Mayoral candidate disregarded the law and made calls to people's homes after eight pm and on Sundays.
Vote by all means. But please close your eyes so you can't see gender, skin color or how ugly or old a candidate is. Please open your ears and listen to what all of them say. How much of what they say is crap and how much of what they promise they actually can and will deliver. It is not wrong to expect political candidates to be a step above what the rest of the citizens are. Look at past performance, attendance at required duties. These people will be expected to protect the people and represent us while we go on with our lives.
And beware the politicians who immediately ask for more taxes and money to spend. Growth if fine but shouldn't come at the expense of the working class.

any reason why this is on the Augusta forum at city data? Not that I don't agree with you but seems out of place here

You might be right. I really wasn't sure where it would fit.
