Where are the ppl in those pictures of Augusta?? Was there a bomb raid? One of the main ingredients of a vibrant downtown is PEOPLE!! Where are they? This is usually what I see when I visit downtown Augusta.. desolation.

Brent85 wasn't lying when he said the riverwalk is very nice. The riverwalk in downtown augusta is one of the most beautiful places. Not only in georgia but all of america.

Georgia Economic Outlook 2008 - News - Augusta, GA
Job creation in Augusta was one of the topics as the University of Georgia's Terry School of Business put on its annual economic forecast for the state and the city. Augusta officials are hoping for things to continue to be sunny. Mayor Deke Copenhaver, Augusta: "I think we're going to have continued success, and continue to build on the momentum that we've seen over the past year. Really, I've said along that Augusta is an undervalued economy." But, the new Dean at UGA's school warned Augusta leaders that problems in the housing market, with energy costs, and Georgia's drought could put the brakes on job growth, statewide. Dr Robert Sumichrast, Dean, University of Georgia Terry School of Business: "There is certainly a strong risk of a recession, but I think the most likely scenario, is growth in '08. I think Augusta will do better. I think Augusta will do better than the state, as a whole, we've got a growing population in Augusta for the first time in a long time." Augusta's growth helped this small business grow, in '07, and for those here, the hope is thing continue to look good in '08. |

I think a saw two people.
... yeah there's real growth in Augusta... about 100 ppl in two years for a city with close to 190,000... that kind of growth is just is just amazing!.. Sure the recession won't hit Augusta's economy as hard.. because the economy has been stagnant for 12 years! It doesn't have that far to recede. |

Show me a article that says augusta gained only 100 people in two years. Before you read the article i provided. In the macon thread you said augusta isn't growing at all. Now you are saying it only gain 100 people make up your mind. Augusta has gained alot more than 100 people from 2006 to 2008. Please provide a link with real info like i did instead of your negative opinions. Show me something thats says only 100 people in two years. I already know you can't but im waiting to hear your response.

"This is a very exciting time to live in Augusta.."
yeah we've been hearing that for the last 35 years... Every new mayor of Augusta talks about how this huge growth explosion.. It never happens. I remember them saying back in the mid 90s that consolidationg the city and county (making Augusta the second largest city in the state) would bring all of this new attention and unprecedented growth in Augusta.. but the contrary has happened.. Augusta has shrunk.. more and more businesses and shopping centers have closed. A new Wal-Mart or Lifestyle center may seem like growth on the surface but it ignores all of the other abandoned shopping centers, businesses, and homes that exists throughout Augusta. There are large sections of inner city Augusta that have been virtually abandoned( except for the crackdealers).. historic homes just rotting like a shell.. I've been to First Friday.. It occurrs once a month.. and it hardly brings THOUSANDS to downtown.. maybe a couple of hundred.. businesses cannot thrive on a few hundred ppl going downtown one night out of the month.. and that is why numerous restaurants and bars have closed.... DTimms, Mocha Delites, Blue Horse Tavern, Hale Tiki, Dessert Cafe, among others. Until they get more people in the habit of going downtown on a REGULAR basis instead of once a month.. it will be hard to get more businesses to become established there. I was just on Broad Street last Saturday... evening around 8pm.. parking plentiful.. you could count the number of people on the sidewalks on one hand. Restaurants mostly empty as well as the bars.. Had I been in downtown Athens at the same time.. it would have been wall to wall people and waiting lists to get a seat in the many restaurants. I noticed how dimly lit Broad street was.. didn't feel safe at all. One thing they could do is get some streetlights. Those dark parking pits are a muggers dream. The Riverwalk.. absolutely nothing going on.. not a soul in sight.. also dimly lit.. didn't feel safe at all. |

Are you crazy about first friday not bringing thousands of people. Get for real that definitely is a lie. Plus you still didn't provide the info on augusta losing population like you said it was. You obviously are a liar.
Here is what you posted earlier at 10:34 pm Macon, GA the best of Georgia??? Talk about a fairytale. None of the propoganda that MayorofMacon or Johndoeboy posts will convince people that places like Macon and Augusta are growing.. Both cities are losing population. Macon the best of 2007 After i provided you with the article. About you being wrong about augusta losing population. Here is what you posted at 12:30 am yeah there's real growth in Augusta... about 100 ppl in two years for a city with close to 190,000... that kind of growth is just is just amazing!.. Sure the recession won't hit Augusta's economy as hard.. because the economy has been stagnant for 12 years! It doesn't have that far to recede. Augusta was losing population according to you at 10:34. Then at 12:30 am it gained 100 people. Make up your mind which one did it do. In 2 hours you have posted false information twice already Again should i belive the dean of the univ of ga about augusta. Or somebody who is completely wrong everytime. The dean at UGA sure believes augusta population is growing Georgia Economic Outlook 2008 - News - Augusta, GA Last edited by johndoeboy; 01-17-2008 at 11:55 PM.. |
