It's about this important road gets a facelift....
Quote:
The latest project, which will involve replacing about 41,000 feet of old, worn, double-sided guardrail with a concrete barrier, will be one of three ongoing construction projects on River Watch Parkway, according to a Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman.
“The number of TIA (Transportation Investment Act) projects on this roadway may seem high, but each has a specific scope,” said Kyle Collins, of the DOT. “All of the contractors involved understand this is a high traffic area and will do their best during construction to have the least amount of impact to motorists. At the end of the day, we are talking about over a $20 million investment.”
Crews have started on the other projects. Intersection improvements at Stevens Creek and Furys Ferry roads include updating signal infrastructure, shoulder widening, adding pedestrian facilities and improving lighting. The River Watch Parkway adaptive signal project will also provide intelligent transportation systems to the traffic signals that will adjust signal timing to respond to real-time fluctuations in traffic, according to the DOT. The project is expected to not only reduce travel time but also fuel consumption.
The latest project was awarded to Beam’s Contracting for nearly $9.3 million and is expected to begin on the 15th Street side of River Watch with an expected completion date of July 31. The project will involve construction of 7.02 miles of median barrier, milling and plant mix resurfacing on River Watch Parkway from 15th Street to the Columbia County line. Decorative lighting will also be added to the area.
