17 acres of prime riverfront... I doubt it's anything huge in the beginning, but I'm glad to see developing the property is moving forward.

Nortonguy did you see the augusta chronicle this morning? The article was talking about different companies that may want to come to augusta. It said with gander mountain alreay in augusta and bass pro in talks to buy cabelas what since would it make for bass pro to come to augusta now.If they buy out cabelas they will own that cabelas outpost that doesn't compare to the 100,000 square foot bass pro that was originally planned to go there. What are your thoughts on this?

The purchase of Cabela's would hurt the potential of a Bass Pro in the short time. The company would eventually come to Augusta, because the population will continue to grow.

But we can have this discussion in another thread.

Says they're only dusturbing less than 1 acre of the property. From the looks of the pics it's digging something up or moving utilities.

Great spot for the Border Bash and other community events..

AU redveloping former Golf and Gardens | The Augusta Chronicle
Augusta University is redeveloping the botanical garden section of the former Georgia Golf Hall of Fame property into an grassy field that could be used for everything from intramural sports to alumni events. An AU spokesman on Monday said the utility and site-preparation work that began earlier this month is designed to turn the dense, maintenance-intensive garden into a field suitable for community events until the university can find a permanent use for the roughly 17-acre tract.

“It’s not the best and highest use of the property, but this basically makes it useful,” said Jack Evans, AU’s vice president of communications and marketing. “It’s just good stewardship.” “The long term goal is to have property that can be developed in a substantial way,” he said. Evans said he could not provide a timeline for when soil removal would commence or when the field would be completed. Access to the field would be controlled by the university through the existing gate system.

Yep, I stopped by the other day. AU is moving along rather quickly on the GGHF property.
