Bass Pro Shops is acquiring outdoor retailer Cabela's, the two companies announced on Monday.

According to Bass Pro Shops, all Cabela’s stores, catalog business and e-commerce operations will continue to operate under the Cabela's name as a subsidiary brand of Bass Pro Shops.

Cabela's shareholders will recieve about $65.50 per share in cash from Bass Pro Shops, in a deal valued at nearly $5.5 billion.

The company plans to continue Cabela's CLUB and Bass Pro Shops credit cards with a multi-year partnership agreement with Capital One Financial Corporation originating and servicing the cards.

According to the companies, all Cabela’s CLUB points and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor Rewards points will be unaffected by the transactions and customers can continue to use their credit cards as they were prior to the transaction.

Both companies released a statement, saying that a big factor in the agreement is the "highly complementary business philosophies, product offerings, expertise and geographic footprints of the two businesses."

Bass Pro Shops currently has about 99 retail stores with over 20,000 employees compared to Cabela's 85 stores and around 19,000 employees.

Not surprised really as I imagine both have been struggling against other retailers online for market share.

Yup but I imagine they will close a select number of Calela's and Bass Pro Shops that compete with each other within the year and or rename some of the stores depending on the circumstances.

I think he may be referring to the rumor that bass pro was still looking to locate here in the area. I personally think that plan has been dead in the water for a while but some have persisted with the theory that bass pro was still going to come. This pretty much makes nixes that theory.

Well that really shouldn't have any bearing on our area since there's just a cabelas.

Bass Pro's plans devolved over time from Augusta having one of their 'flagship' stores to it only being one of their Outpost type stores. That type of store is the same sort of footprint as the Cabela's and Gander that we already have. Doing the math, that makes it pretty clear to me that nothing would happen in our area now that the acquisition is in the works.
