At a press conference Friday, City Administrator Todd Glover revealed nearly 5 blocks of Downtown North Augusta would be in the coverage area of the network.

The service went online as of 11 a.m. and city leaders says this is all part of a bigger plan to bring more people to South Carolina’s Riverfront.

The City of North Augusta teamed up with Spirit Communications, to bring the news amenity Downtown.

“If y’all know me, free is a price I like to pay.” North Augusta Mayor Lark Jones said.

Glover says for sometime the city council has been focusing on ways to boost local business. The City Administrator says within the last year council has eased restrictions on businesses owners, by revising the downtown overlay district. This made it easier for business owners locate their businesses in the downtown area.

Just in the last few months, a new Food Truck Stop was created on Jackson Square, adding more food options to a venue that was lacking in the area.
