Republicans are pushing to repeal regulations that would prevent cable companies from selling your personal info to anyone for profit. As the regulations provide, you will be able to opt out of having your internet habits, state of health, age, sexual orientation, etc., sold to the highest bidder without your expressed permission. The politicos want the regulations repealed even before they go into effect. If we don't bug our representatives in Washington they will allow cable companies to even sell your social security numbers to anybody. They say repealing the regs will not increase identity theft, predatory advertising, or personal security. In my humble opinion that is a load of crap!
There's a lot of good information on the news websites right now so please look at it. A phone call, letter or email to our reps might be the best thing to convince them that such a thing is not good for the private citizens. Even contacting the president (@potus) might help. Please check it out.
The politicians won't protect our interests so it's up to us to do it for ourselves.

Not just Republicans. And this was done as part of a transparency in government move.

Isn't this better suited for the general politics forum?
